Hidden Resilience
exploring the overlooked ecologies of Heidelberg West

Hidden Resilience is a site-responsive artist book exploring the overlooked ecologies of Heidelberg West reflecting the last twelve years of my observations. Through drawing, observation and research, the project reveals the plants, insects, animals and stories that continue to persist within grasslands, creek corridors, housing estates and industrial edges, demonstrating that resilience is often found in places we have
stopped seeing.

Each page was drawn then backgrounds added layering frottage, contact prints and eco dyes from natural materials such as gum leaves and mushrooms gathered in Heidelberg West on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. In response to the local area, everything was found in the industrial area and on building sites including charcoal from burnt fences and cars.
