Living on Mute- SOL gallery 2025
SOLD- Pencil on paper & wire with vintage frame 34 x 114cm

Living on Mute explores the strength found in self-acceptance. Hundreds of hand-drawn butterflies, rendered in delicate pencil on toned paper,
cascade downward—spilling beyond the frame and into the viewer’s space creating a flow and momentum.
Each butterfly represents a moment of transformation, a whisper of identity once suppressed, now released and joining force.

Despite Us- Beinart Gallery Antipodes 2025
SOLD pencil & watercolour, barbed wire, metal flake & vintage frame

We destroy, we tear down, build over, invade, take and take and take. But, despite us, nature finds a way.
Dedicated to all of the birds and butterflies I see seemingly thriving in my local industrial area; despite us.

AT GRANDAD'S HOUSE is a nostalgic escape to simpler times past.
Lovingly recreated in the gallery space, Grandad’s lounge room houses the artist’s hand drawn paper butterflies and insects.
Combining pencil on toned paper and vintage materials- often reminiscent of fabrics, textures and colour palettes direct from
her childhood. Jen Selmore invites you to take a comforting step back to childhood summer’s spent at Grandad’s house
where the towering roses and daisies provided ample coverage for hide and seek while butterflies flitted about in the sun.
And inside always a cosy place to sit and read one of the hundreds of books off the shelves.

Jen Selmore With God on our Side Hand drawn and cut paper butterflies
With God on our Side- Beinart Gallery Small Works 2024
SOLD Pencil and toned paper, vintage frame and mount used. 26x 30cm

For all of history the teritorial have invaded, condemned and destroyed others in the name of ‘God’.
This frenzied swarm of butterflies, some whole, some damaged, others dying or dead initially leads
your eye but then quickly confuses it by deviating from the flow down down down into damage and chaos.
I was originally going to create coloured butterflies attacking each other to represent different countries’
flags but aren’t we all really the same?
